Obituary Robin Yelland Jordan’s legend

Robin Yolland 1947-2024

We were all very sad to hear of the passing of Robin.  We’ve played Robin’s team (Jordans Taverners CC ) in one form or another for over a quarter of a century and Robin has been at every game.  We started in the early 90’s as a Deloitte and Touche works  team playing midweek games and when we decided to make it all a bit more formal and play regular Sunday games as Salix, Robin was one of the very first people to give us a chance and let us play proper village cricket out in the beautiful Chilterns.

Our two teams have had many good-natured on-field tussles over the years (with Jordans usually winning!) and it’s one of our favourite fixtures every year, even for our team members who weren’t even born when it all started.

Robin’s passion for cricket was greater even than his interest in several social pints after the game.  He often bought everyone bar snacks and a jug and we all had great fun deconstructing the games.  Great company, and I’m incredibly sad we won’t be seeing him any more.

I understand he was 77 (and that’s a score he would have been well proud of). I cannot put it more succinctly than our one-time fast bowler, Rog, who said “Robin was a lovely guy.”   He most certainly was, and we’ll all miss him come summer.

Our commiserations to his son Charlie (who continues to skittle our players at out at will) and to the family.
