1. Cricket is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy (Stephen Fry)
2. FOOTBALL offers the world clichés; RUGBY produces facial deformity; HOCKEY provides an acceptable outlet for psychotic violence; CRICKET alone breeds myths. More quotes here.
Dec 2004 Game1 : vs Highgate A, Game 2 vs Fitch
Early
Sunday morning saw us arrive at Lords at the unfeasibly early
hour of 10 am. A cripple, several hangovers, two players with
ulcers, one who went bright pink very after a small amount of
exertion and over half the team with beards. We were in trouble
from the start. In fact we were a Warrick short of a load.
And so to game one, where we batted (if you can call it that, first). New Doms nurdling style suited the event and he and Ginger put on a few. But 62 wasn’t enough and when the “well past it” yours truly got whacked for about 20 off one over it was goodnight Irene.
Barely time to gain breath and it was back on to game two and, batting first, Ginger hit his highest of the season and the Nurdler also performed well, but 67 was not a defendable target. And thus it proved, even without my bowling contribution to the opposition.
And so to the bar to reflect we had fallen at the first hurdle, finished before we started and shot our bolt at least a day earlier.
And so no final for Salix (but more time in bed next week) and onto the Rodbert Brothers cup in January
