>Dear Fletch

I hope you had an excellent weekend in Cannes and soaked up all the ambience. Old Reptilians were not as scary as first thought and the game was judged a "comfortable win" for Salix. Old Reps 102 all out (9 wkts) off 34 overs, Salix 105-5 (28 ovrs).

We had 11 players for Sunday, this included 2 new players to the club who want to play again. It was a scorching day and I lost the toss, they elected to bat on what looked like a lively wicket. Our bowlers made full use of the conditions and the pitch, everyone bowled extremely well however, I would highlight Andy Bush's outstanding spell. It was the quickest I have seen him and he bowled with lots of menace. His figures 7ovs-3mdns-8runs-3wkts speak more than my words. It was an excellent fielding effort, where the team remained focused throughout the afternoon in very hot conditions. Only 2 dropped catches Mark Amselem and Andy Bush. This may be a little harsh on Andy as it was a difficult catch and he was fielding very close to the batsman. Fred bowled very well 7-0-32-2,
deceiving not just the batsman but me on occasion too.

Other fielding highlights included a great catch from Steve "Jonty Rhodes" Jacobs and 1 from Oliver Robinson. I do not want to take away anything from our efforts in the field but they did not bat well at all. Other bowling Oliver Robinson 6.4-3-6-1, Rob Bailey 6-0-17-2, Steve Jacobs 7-0-25-0.

We had a leisurely innings, their bowlers did not use the pitch well and we were never in trouble. This was a time for just staying there, picking up the singles and waiting for the bad ball, which we duly did. Only one silly wicket with Oliver running himself out needlessly. We cruised to the target with highlights from Craig Brown 30, Adam Smith 15, Rob Bailey 15 n.o., Ben Shaw 12 n.o.

Overall, a strange bunch who were expecting an easy win, they got a surprise. They admitted that they did not have their best batsman playing, but nor did we and I made sure they knew this. Worth playing again? If we are short of fixtures. They invited us to the pub but I do not think any of us went, I was off to see Star Wars.

New players included Oliver Robinson, friend of Andy Bush, bowled very well and looks useful with the bat, he hit a great 6. Adam Smith a friend a both Rob and myself from university, he is not a bad batsman however, he is a bit rusty
