Hot and humid: Chalfont at Seer Green 5 Sept

Well, it dawned exceptionally hot and humid as the team made it's way to the lovely Bucks village of Seer Green. Where? you ask, as did a number of the team. However they eventually all got there (try to catch the train next time Ollie..). Acting Captain Simon duly lost the toss and they put us into bat.

Because of the late arrivals, Andy Bush manfully stepped into open and was going well until he hit over what was an absolute corker of a ball. Middle stump. Craig duly stepped in, and with Simon brought up the 50 partnership before falling to a catch.. It wasn't quite Ollies day as he was out LBW for zero, but then somewhat surprisingly the middle order all put on a quite a few each and the score slowly rose to 120 or so. Marco hit his first 4 and then departed the way of all flesh to leave Richard Cox and Fletch to put on spirited tail end (though I say it myself) of 30 odd. 161 for 7 and a well deserved cup of tea.

If anything it had got hotter as Salix stepped into field. Because of the slope on the wicket, Simon opened with Andy downhill and Ollie uphill, with Steve and Craig on first change. Once again Steve and Andy both bowled very well and were unlucky with the wickets, (not helped by Simon dropping two catches?) however Ollie cut a swathe through the openers and things were looking good for Salix. However after about 30 Overs Chalfont had pretty much picked up the score rate and things were looking a little dicey. Craig in particular had quite a few knocked off him on one over and Simon then came on in his stead.

The match was pretty evenly balanced until 35 Overs, their score rate had fallen, but they still had 5 wickets and needed 5 an over to win. The weather got weird around this time too - dark clouds and dry lightning in the air. It was omen, as we broke through - two excellent wickets from Simon (one C and B) and two from back on Craig saw the tail go limply. Chalfont 151 all out in the 39^th Over.

Excellent blokes, they then took us all up the pub, where a complimentary jug and hot food was laid on. We shall be playing them again next year, and this was one of the closest games we have played all season -a great team performance and a great outing for Simon (watch out Dom, your job's on the line..)
