2. FOOTBALL offers the world clichés; RUGBY produces facial deformity; HOCKEY provides an acceptable outlet for psychotic violence; CRICKET alone breeds myths... More quotes here.

Dr D after his PB
To Battersea Park, or should we say South Chelsea. Home to sunbathing be-thonged beauties, unrolled wickets and a blistering sun.

Losing the toss, Salix fielded first. Missing 4 players (blame a minicab and Mr J - shortest journey, latest arrival), Warrick and substitute fielder Fletch were allowed to open the bowling, getting a quickish wicket. However the full team duly arrived and normal service was resumed. Wickets fell slowly, but the Everyman No 7 whacked seven bells out of the ball to see them take tea at a comfortable 214. Itz-a-shocker award to Dr D who dropped several albeit tricky ones thus challenging the present Lurpak first placer who held a great one. But he was to make up for this slippery fingeredness later, oh yes.

A rapid picnic and it was back out. It would be callous to go through the innings blow by blow, but lets say this: the German got 92. Extras got 38, Dr D got 28. No one else got more than 5, and there were 5 ducks. This was not so much a middle order collapse as a virtually all-of-the-order collapse. So lifetime personal bests for the German (now 5th highest ever score for Salix) and Dr D, something to forget for the rest.

And as we wearily put the kit away, we were able to look back on a very pleasant day with a really nice set of opponents and ask ourselves: Salix centurion where art thou, brother.

In deference to our high scorer we offer this appeal, courtesy Google translations:

wenn Sie ein guter mittlerer Auftragsspieler sind, möchte Salix von Ihnen hören. wir trinken gute Tees
