Despite the scoreline, a curiously uninspiring afternoons cricket as our winning run wilted in what was the hottest day of the year by far. Salix lost the toss and fielded on a totally benign pitch. As Darren Gough was having to remove his trousers at Bristol in the heat, and Pietersen was proving England?s saviour over the Aussies, most of the players were more interested in the radio than our game. Highlights were few- a Phene player carried his bat for 127, Bison carried his for Salix for a great 87, Arsey added to his tally of goldens and did what we might now call a reverse Collingwood by turning a boundary catch into a six (Ed note: to be fair, I wouldn?t have even got near it). And that was about it.
