Echinacea purpurea White Swan (White Coneflower)
Captain's Day being usurped by a massed outing to The Oval, those of us unable to obtained tickets turned up for a hastily arranged match against The White Swan at the luxuriously appointed Esher ground. Sky was available in the bar so much attention was focussed on the battle for the Ashes but in between this Captain Angry won the toss and elected to bat. There followed a brisk start (and a second consecutive 50 partnership) for the first wicket with Chopper going on to record an excellent 61, Ginger got fifty too and with Dazzler and Padders chipping in we got to 215 off out 35 overs. After another excellent tea, we started on a bright note with a couple of quick wickets for Vic and Padders and Haddin holing out at cow corner. Two quick wickets unfortunately allowed their 3 and 4 time to establish a good partnership and with the ball disappearing to all parts, 215 was looking well short of a winning total. However, Will bowled an excellent spell at the height of the onslaught and broke the partnership. The other batsman (Rian?) went on to make a brilliant hundred but runs dried up at the other end and the rate climbed with Vic, Ginger and Rog all bowling tightly. Eventually, the strain told and Padders ran out their centurion. A second run out followed and, unusually, the opposition gave up with 2 balls left needing an unlikely 15 to win.

Over all, this was an excellent game with a great set of guys - thanks to the White Swan lads for turning up at such short notice, perhaps we can have a return next year.

Eds note: according the scorebook we seem to have sported 12 players - see VCGC's comment. Oh well

They declared. The other two wickets were run outs. The 1 not out was my friend, Simon Latham.

Hi All, what on earth happened during this game then? I assume the scorecard is wrong and we batted first? But why did they stop batting with only 6 wickets down before they used their alloted overs? And who got the other 2 wickets? Were they run outs? And why no match report? What is going on, I think we should be told!!!
