A not so busy man
It's been that sort of season - big wins and big losses all year. Yesterday at Harlington was, regrettably, the latter. On a windy day - I brought a cup of tea out to Steve-O on bag-minding duty and lost half of it literally blown out of the cup on the way there - we lost the toss and went out to field with hopes high. A strong attack included Kunwar, the Wee-man, Steve-O, Abdullah and Cap'n CK. Surely we would bowl out a side with only 8 men plus Cameron on-loan. Kunwar went at 4 an over and was unlucky not to pick up a couple of extra wickets but everyone else went for plenty. Good balls missed the stumps and, apart from Dazzla's drop, nothing went to hand. The Balham boys batted purposefully and, with the aid of the standard lightning-fast Harlington outfield, they raced to 233.

In reply, I'm afraid there were a series of suicide shots. Salix's oldest ever opening partnership lasted only three-and-a-bit overs. Vikram hit a few good shots then edged a drive to the keeper, Kunwar took 2 fours in a over and then gave a catch to square leg looking for a third. Abdullah and your correspondent then contrived a run out from nothing and by the time drinks were taken we were four down and well behind the rate. It didn't get any better and we limped along to 150-ish and a comprehensive defeat. Any plusses - well Steve-O added one more to his unassailable tally of DNBs and Cameron bowled a nice spell for the opposition. One day soon we could see Jacobs père et fils open the bowling. Congratulations to the Roamers who thoroughly out-batted and out-bowled us. Maybe next year?..

Thanks for the wicket but alas I didn't actually take one! Whoops. Fixed. Ed
