Captain Padders
Sunday arrived and we still had eleven players, albeit they were in various states of disrepair. The weather was still fabulous and the opposition sent out their second XI who spanned the generations from 15 - 75 with not many in the 20 - 60 range!

Much to everyone's surprise and relief we batted first. At the end of the second over we had nothing on the board and both openers back in the hutch. Clearly fearing a complete capitulation, their openers were taken out of the attack after bowling two each. However, wickets continued to fall and by the time Adam's quick fire 27 came to an end and Tinker joined Padmo we were 55/4 and only 11 overs had elapsed.

These two saw us through to the 28th over putting on 71 together when the captain was removed for an excellent 53 off 68 balls with 9 fours. Tinker was eventually the last man out in the 39th over having batted for 27 overs and taken 73 balls to accumulate 33 runs; frankly no one thought he was capable of showing such restraint!

I should also mention there was the obligatory comedy run out and a golden for Swords.

After another excellent tea we launched ourselves onto the field of battle. The opening pair had over 140 years of life experience between them, more than enough to keep Salix at bay. The scorecard suggests we took 2 wickets but alas it was only one; the other was a "retired out". So Dillan ended the tour as the leading wicket taker with two wickets.

We didn't bowl badly and the Alfas needed 34 overs to get the runs but we couldn't master the conditions and put any pressure on the batsmen.

And so the match ended with more jugs of beer and tales of games gone by, a great way to end a lovely day.
