Fifer Elvis gets last years ball
We first played the London Nigerians in 1998, and up to today we had played 13 fixtures and lost the lot. Well today was 14th time lucky! I vividly remember our first game - 17 years ago on the blasted wasteland that is Warren Farm - the report from that time mentions "Miles of nothing but jets landing at Heathrow" and so to today at Harlington - plus ca change TBH.

On a personal note, it was also great to see Tade, Makay, Roland, Sam and all the others again, there is something really enduring about all those years and all that chasing after 6s that have landed in the rhododendrons. But enough visiting the past: heavy overnight rain had put the fixture in doubt, but it did clear up and part of the day was actually quite sunny. The LNs went into bat first and made the best they could of a very sticky wicket: the ball was bouncing like on a trampoline the first part of the day. Salix bowled well and restricted the rate to a par 161 at tea (which now features a mysterious absence of crisps). Really good bowling and fielding from everyone with CK especially taking two great catches..

After tea, we were very slow to get going in the face of some decent bowling, but cometh the hour etc and Siv, CK, Ginger and Delilah revved up to see us home with a few overs to spare: there was some talk about a rebranding for Delilah but the committee has vetoed this..

All in all a really historic game: great to meet old friends, the game was played in a great spirit and above all we broke a 17 year duck. You can't really ask for more.

Thanks Pelvis Elvis... Nicest thing you've ever said to me... First Game... My Keeping will get better..Otherwise i'll hand the gloves back to Dozy if you prefer.. Batting on the other hand can only get worse..

The one in the out field that whistled through his upraised arms. He was, and I quote, "blinded by the light"

Which one was Dozy's drop?

Through gritted teeth, well batted Siv. Some fairly dodgy keeping though. Is the lack of comments on here a reflection of the, ahem, wit on social media?
