Layla the dog and hangers on
Assembling in the shimmering heat against our old opponents the Quokkas, we sported our own Aussies this year, plus two guests, both conveniently called Mark. Winning the toss captain CK1 put us into bat and Evil Dave immediately claimed two quick ones. But we soldiered on and everyone (nearly) contributed on what was a seriously juicy Harlington pitch to get a roughly par 166.

After the usual disgusting tea it was back out to find the pitch hadn't let go of its demons as evening drew in. Delilah opened with an absolutely cracking spell and two fast inswinging yorkers in a row got his men, whilst Elvis maintained excellent control at the other end, and even got one to spin through the gate to get Robin the Quokkas cap. The slips were always in this game and whilst we dropped three catches here its fair to say even Jonty Rhodes might have struggled to hang on to any of them

But as the wickets fell the Quokkas started to approach our score but in the end we finally held the crucial slip catch to trot out winners and off to the pub.

As ever, this was a really good game, played in a wonderful friendly spirit, really close fought and at a pretty high standard as well.

Yeah, my bowling figures have really taken a hit now I don't bowl at the end.

And good to see CK's continuing the policy of the skipper serving himself up some late rabbits. I learnt that one from Stu.

Thanks for the win ratio boost, fellas. Back next week to drag it back down. Good to see (ex-opening bat) Deepak is definitely a bowler again.
