2. FOOTBALL offers the world clichés; RUGBY produces facial deformity; HOCKEY provides an acceptable outlet for psychotic violence; CRICKET alone breeds myths... More quotes here.

And so to battle with our old Enemies the Prez.  Prior to this game the teams had played 7 times with Salix winning 4 and the Prez 3, including a major drubbing of us in 2002.  This game also always features a bogey performance from our Captain. And today was not to buck the trend.

With Cap’n Ben duly losing the toss, the Prez  chose to bat first.  And with the notable exception of Mr Clark boy did we serve up a load of old cack in the field: we dropped no less than 8 catches (and that only the ones we chose to count.)  We bowled 36 wides (plus assorted no balls etc) and so it came to tea with the Prez on 176.  The Captain said we "had let the game get away from us a bit".  But I thought we were pretty rubbish out there, with me as one of the worst.

And so it couldn't get worse as our openers strode out.  But wait, it could. As Mr Swindells held up one end the other tumbled with our Captain amongst several to barely take strike before walking back. But then Bush Junior lurched out in his too big new shoes and steadied it up a bit to be followed by our jock-strapless new boy Mr Collins (whose running between the wicket whilst holding his crotch caused Mr Clark to perform a very spectacular impersonation of Michael Jackson).

And then Mr Bush Senior, (who, unlike his son appears to buy the right sized shoes) and Danny "Ricky" Poynting all held up the other end whilst Mr Swindells plugged away garnering a match wining total of 86. Our best score all season and truly making Mr Swindells the match winner, all on his own.

So a real thriller. Just one over to go as Ricky hit the winner and so now I suppose I'll have to get the trophies re-engraved.
