In our 25th Anniversary year; this was our 15th fixture against the Jordans Taverners; and while our record (only 4 wins) at Seer Green leaves a lot to be desired it is still one of our favourite opponents and places to play cricket. After a wash-out last weekend, the rain stayed away but so did the sun and we were left with grey, cold overcast conditions.

CK1 skippered in Padders' absence and did something Padders hasn't done much this season and won the toss. CK elected to bat first with the hope of putting on a competitive total. Before the game CK1 had sent the team emails containing instructions and an initial game plan; with the instructions to YM and Daveski the openers to see off the new ball and blunt the attack. It must have got lost in YM's spam as in the third over he chipped straight to mid-off. Daveski showed signs on the great form we'd seen the last few weeks; but was unable to kick-on and fell in the ninth over with score only on 16. However CK1 and Nelson were able to consolidate and get the scoreboard ticking along. On a sticky wicket and against some really tight bowing; CK1 and Nelson built an excellent partnership; putting on 85 run partnership in 20 overs. Nelson was really flowing and was looking to build a really strong total before being brilliantly caught at deep-midwicket; falling just short of his fifty. Flately came and went without troubling the scorers; however Dozy came in and played some outstanding strokes; the highlight being a front foot pull which whistled to the boundary. CK1 continued batting well; before he too fell short of a well-deserved fifty as he was brilliantly caught one-handed. We lost four wickets in the last five overs in the innings and finished on 144. In reality we were 30 to 40 short of par; and with our depleted bowling attack we really needed more than par.

After tea; I opened up the bowling and with 2 boundaries off my first three deliveries it wasn't the start we were looking for; however after working out short and wide wasn't a great tactic the runs slowed down. The skipper opened from the other end and bowled with great aggression and control; one edge streaked past point where Nelson chased, slid and rocket threw into the gloves of Dozy who finished off an excellent run-out... there really aren't two runs to Siv. With this early wicket in the second over; and then me getting another a few overs later there was hope that we could make a real fight of this. Flately came on a bowled really well; he bowled with great zip in the channel of uncertainty and really deserved a wicket. With only three front-line bowlers; Nelson and Daveski came on hoping to find the breakthrough but none was to come. Ultimately an 8 wicket defeat in only the 25th over is a bit of a pasting; but doesn't do justice to the effort put in by the whole team.

Thanks to Steve-o for scoring; and thanks to the Tav's for another great game; here's to next year where I'm hoping we can improve our winning ratio.

YM left the following remarks on 1st September 2015

As ever, a lovely day out. The Bank Holiday showed, amazingly, that some of our team have loved ones who like to spend a weekend with them hence our somewhat depleted resources. But everyone tried as hard as they could and you can't ask for more than that. I'd also like to thank Tuffers for not mentioning the four buffet balls I bowled, Charles and Francis for coming along and, as a team, we would like to wish the Tavs top supporter, Jim, who helps with the scoring each year, our best wishes in recovering from illness - we missed his company.
