Saturday's weather was glorious and a few including Dozy made the short trip to the Idle CC pitch early for some practise. The ground is probably one of the best we have played on whilst on tour and better than some in the UK. Capt CK won the toss and decided to bat. The ingenious batting order was a designed to maximise our best talent with different people at 3 depending on which opener was out first. Dozy and Padders took the opening slots and not quite as expected, Dozy was 13 after the first over whilst Padders couldn't quite get his batting right. A few more overs saw the first wicket with Dozy being caught and then Nurdler came in and handled the dot balls with consummate ease, sadly getting a 21 ball duck. Padders decided a new bat might be the trick and borrowed Smutty's and from that moment on, he lashed out with great skill. Tuffers was next in but made way for Nelson who was nicely rested...then the fireworks started helped by a few dropped catches. This two then put on 130 runs for the fourth wicket before Padders was caught on 87. CK then joined the fray and Nelson moved towards his ton. CK moved quickly before being out a few balls before the end allowing Big Al to walk to the square and not face a ball before it was all over 220 after 35 overs. Idle bowled very nicely with only 7 extras and would have restricted us to a lower score if they?d only held on to a few more.

Tea was glorious mix of salami, cheese and bread and a curry with wine - very civilised.

Then into the field, we were loaned a fielder from Idle called Huq - apparently their best player.

The Salix response got off to a great start with their openers being run out and stumped - Dozy doing a brilliant job behind the sticks and the team fielding very well. Tuffers had two, Nurdler and YM one each. CK took three great catches and whilst we had a few drops, the new Salix 11 played a very tight game. Big Al, bowled well and all were pretty economical ending the Idle innings on 158 for 7.

It was a great match and a brilliant team who then took us out to dinner. The Salix night ended early again, as we knew the Sunday weather was likely to be wet and the next Idle team much younger.
