It's a sorry day when this pic features
The first Sunday in August found a Salix XI at Harlington for a first match with Gardeners CC and our only home fixture this August. The weather was good and we won the toss, there is the end of any positives in this report. We started slowly and lost Rog early, The Match hit a few nice shots, Dozy hung around for a bit but wickets bled away and we were not many for 7 when Badmo and our aged former supremo combined to bring a little respectability to the score. Some support from the rest of the tail meant we were all out for 131 of the last ball of the 35 overs. Small but defendable if we fielded like tigers and bowled like demons.

Sadly we didn’t. No-one bowled particularly badly, Badmo went unrewarded for a spell where he beat the edge at least once an over but their openers were just too good. We did drop a few but only when the end was pretty close. In a two horse race, we came third by a distance. I could say more but “Curae leves loquuntur ingentes stupent”* wouldn’t you agree?

Congratulations to the Gardeners – a great bunch of guys – maybe we could field a XXII next time like they did in the old days when I was a lad.

(*) Curae leves loquuntur ingentes stupent - Slight griefs talk, great ones are speechless.

Re the drops, the Rusty Barron, Rog and Smutty were the culprits and all were off Nelsons bowling

YM left the following remarks on 8th August 2016

As that Greek chap Ovid said: “Perfer et obdura, dolor hic tibi proderit olim. (Be patient and tough; someday this pain will be useful to you.)” - although I don't think they had Nurofen then. Or cricket.
