My first thought on being asked to supply a match report for last Sunday was – why don’t I use the one from the previous week. Find and replace Harlington with Eastcote and Gardeners with Gubbays and there you go. My second thought was that would be cheating though and would also short-change my reading public. I know how much you all look forward to another Nurdler report packed with multi-syllabic words and quotes in dead languages. So then …… Sunday in Eastcote and the sun was shining. The boys, looking to bounce back from the previous week’s thrashing welcomed back TYS after a year’s sabbatical and new boy Rob. Winning the toss once more, CK opted to bat first in light of our failures chasing in the last couple of matches. Daveski and Nelson opened watchfully but were able to pick off boundaries at regular intervals with the outfield extremely fast after the recent dry spell. If memory serves, we were 44 off 8 overs when the first wicket fell and looking just about on for the 200+ that looked to be needed if we were to mount a serious challenge, sadly we fell away and although TYS played well given his lack of match practice, Brush hit a few good shots (and one spectacularly bad one) and the captain did his best to keep things going, we fell away to 161-9 off our 35 overs.

We come to tea which was nice - but totally lacking in the curry that I had been promised beforehand. Try not to get an old man’s hopes up like that again lads, getting thumped is enough disappointment for one day.

Post-tea it went as expected – a brief examination of the figures will show that the pacemen managed 2 overs each for quite a lot. Slow bowling (some of it delivered by the old and infirm) proved slightly less expensive and even delivered a couple of wickets. Daveski bowled particularly well and was unlucky to get a couple of catches dropped. Is this a late bid for all-rounder status? It was, however, too little too late and we were beaten before drinks for the second week in a row.

Well done Gubbays, excellent hosts and sadly far too good for us on the day.

Quote of the day from Nelson (I paraphrase) “ You guys are so good at taking losses” - it’s practice, mate, lots of practice.

whoops that slipped report: - Paddlers, Nelson 1 drop each off Daveski (relative dollies, off consecutive deliveries, we must note). Nurdler 1 drop off Nelson. Young Spill 1 missed stumping off The Nurdler. CK 1 catch off The Nurdler.

Disappointed that Young Spillane couldn't maintain his batting average of 89 against Gubbays

Padders left the following remarks on 16th August 2016

Misery? Beautiful weather, very friendly opponents, good tea, excellent pitch banter, nice pub. And as long as Daveski keeps carrying Siv at the top of the innings, we're good.
