2. FOOTBALL offers the world clichés; RUGBY produces facial deformity; HOCKEY provides an acceptable outlet for psychotic violence; CRICKET alone breeds myths... More quotes here.

The Ton-ster
I'll start with a quote from last years match report .. "We look forward to making this a regular game, however the under 15's will be under 16 next year which rather fills us with trepidation" Despite ex Captain Ben allegedly turning out a side that "was a touch weaker" my prediction came true.

Now whilst it's always great to nurture talent and all that stuff, sadly Ollie, who we have known since he was little, strode out and made an essentially chanceless ton against us. And his mate a decent 70 odd. Which all effectively took the game away from us. We were most grateful to the three CAC guys who turned out for us and Jack and our very own Dazzler certainly had a good a go at getting us off the mark (not at all helped by Arsey who was, it was to subsequently transpire, having a let's chuck my wicket away weekend by getting a golden on Sunday). But I digress. From then on it was rapidly downhill in the face of some tremendous bowling. As the lower middle order faced up to a run rate of roughly 20+ an over spines wilted and resolve evaporated.

Amazingly the rain stayed away despite near apocalyptic clouds and it even turned out a bit nice later in the day. Salix pride was only partly saved by Salix, in the form of Arsey and myself, winning the long distance egg throwing competition that was organised to celebrate Astons prize day.

Once again though, a lovely day out, a very fine tea (special mention to Lotties home-made flapjacks) and a lovely time. As it appears the Shaw family posses a cricket gene, we hereby place dibs on Lottie playing for us next year, which might somewhat ameliorate the 191 collective years of me, the Killer and the RLM.

And finally, on a personal note, I was oblige to reflect that it was pretty much in fact half a century since I played my first game with adults. And I remember well getting a duck that day in 1968. So I shall leave you with an epigram from Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr "plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose" - usually translated as "the more things change, the more they stay the same"
