2. FOOTBALL offers the world clichés; RUGBY produces facial deformity; HOCKEY provides an acceptable outlet for psychotic violence; CRICKET alone breeds myths... More quotes here.

Summer continued its majestic progress with a torrential downpour on the Saturday night before this game, however it all cleared up and we could play. In tune with the climes we were as wet as the weather. We batted first in this timed game, and Andy Rayner specifically asked me to make sure that I mentioned that the ball that got him for a duck came back sharply and was UNPLAYABLE. and obviously this is true as it clean bowled him. Anyhow, we continued our slow progress against some very good bolwing, and even went into tea whilst still batting (well, not literally). good knocks by Paul Mason, Ollie and Clarkster saw a respectable 159 , but a run rate of less than 3 an over.

This left Welwyn to get 160 in around 35 overs. Which they did easily. Frankly our chances of drawing were not improved by the fact that we put down around 4 chances in the first 4 overs. Glorious mention must however go to Ollie Carter who took a stonker of a catch in the covers and to Neil who found the ground this year.

Well, that's it, I'm out of Prozac, so it's goodnight from him, and goodnight from me...
