2. FOOTBALL offers the world clichés; RUGBY produces facial deformity; HOCKEY provides an acceptable outlet for psychotic violence; CRICKET alone breeds myths... More quotes here.

MMM Baste me baby

I believe I am correct in saying that those Americans who like guns and things have what might loosely be termed a sport, whereby they take huge rifles and go out in the backyard and shoot the worlds dumbest bird, Agriocharis ocellata.

They call this a turkey shoot

We had a London version of this versus the Presidents, who sporting a couple of new and rather good players won the toss against our Captain for the Day, Chris K and went in to bat.

Did Salix bowl badly? A bit. Did we field badly? A bit. Was 170 odd a decent score. Quite. But following a tea of samosas and Early Grey, the turkey shoot notched up a gear and we posse the question - was our batting horrific? A lot.

The bald facts indicate the sheer scale of our incompetence: 5 ducks, 4 players in single figures. Extras by far the highest score. In fact if Dave Henig hadn’t got 19 (for some time the only player to actually get a run off the bat) then it would have been an all time Salix worst ever score.

To summarise, the high point was our third father and son pairing, the Bushes (with Bush pere making an infinitely larger number of runs than Bush fils (who said genes are important). And of course the tea.

The low point. Everything else.
