And so to the last game of the season, in the leafy affluent lanes of Seer Green. As we knocked up the banter centered around Captains Day and the outstanding performances therein. However, in true Salix fashion Capn Ben lost the toss a la Nasser and in we went to bat. The pitch was looking nice for the time of year, although the boundary was rather far our and it was somewhat slow. Clarkster and Alex set of well until the partnership was broken around 50, then then we had a little mid order crisis before Vinay and Capn Ben stiffened up the middle order (Vinay hitting a cracking 6 en route). The tail end limped a little and Steve could not be persuaded to pad up for the last ball (nothing new there then) so we came into tea with 170 on the clock. Possibly defensible?

Or possibly not. Checking the scorebook from last year we should really have noticed they were a batting team.. However our bowlers laboured mightily and got their first guy at 34. However some rather desperate dropped catches (and truth it must be said a rather iffy decision), meant that they had got 112 before Fletch got the other opener stumped. However, they were always on the run rate, and with six needed, their number six came to the crease, whacked Paul for an almighty 6 first ball and it was off to the pub for an excellent second tea. Certainly catches do win matches and whilst the chances were hard we did put down 4, which was not helpful.

This game also changed the end of season stats quite dramatically with Alex and Ben both overtaking Paul as highest scorers it the year and Fletch overtaking Andy Bush in terms of wickets taken to come a poor second to Stevie. Still , we were lucky with the weather and it wasn't at all a one sided game. Roll on 2002
